ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) will be visited for the second time by a specialist in Gregorian chant, Professor Susi Ferfoglia, to teach the course 'Hildegard von Bingen. Music, genre and religious inspiration in twelfth-century Europe', to be held on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 April. The course is being coordinated by Professor Juan Carlos Asensio, also a specialist in Gregorian chant and liturgical music.

In recent years, there has been a growing body of research that has revealed the many facets of the nun Hildegard of Bingen. One of the most interesting is undoubtedly her face as a composer. Behind her delicate inspiration lie many puzzles, breaking the rules of composition based on the octave. During the sessions dedicated to the biographical study of Hildegard of Bingen, Professor Ferfoglia will lean in particular on compositional themes from the theoretical as well as the practical side, based on works preserved in medieval sources.

Professor Susi Ferfoglia is a specialist in Gregorian chant, an academic lecturer and director of the Institute of Sacred Music at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow. She is also founder and director (since 2016) of the postgraduate course in monodic liturgical chant at UPJPII, and founder of the female ensemble Flores Rosarum, specialising in the works of Hildegard of Bingen and Polish monophony since 2007. In addition to her concert activities, she also focuses on the semiotic practice of Gregorian chant in the liturgical area.
